YouTube Music improves TV experience having recently launched several new YouTube Music integrations for listening wherever you are (smart displays, Google Maps and Waze, Google Home and Nest speakers). The initial launch of YouTube Music in the YouTube app on TVs was in July 2019 and this represents the first major upgrade to YouTube Music for listeners using their TV. New features include:
- Music Library – Easily access your saved playlists and liked songs in your library, right in the YouTube Music tab within your YouTube app on your TV.
- Improved User Interface – Updated visuals to showcase album and playlist artwork in their best form, making it easy to find the music you want to listen to.
And on TVs running the Android TV OS, including the new Chromecast with Google TV, YouTube Music have added these features:
- Access your uploads – Upload songs to your YouTube Music library from your computer, and access them on the big screen.
- Listen and look on TVs – A new playback interface now includes information like the song and artist name, and a progress bar as music plays.
- Explore tunes on your home screen – On devices with the Android TV home screen, you’ll see an all new YouTube Music row to help you find your next song – from old classics to new hits.
Upcoming features will allow YouTube Music Premium users to continue playing music in the background after exiting the app, similar to YouTube Music on mobile amongst others.
YouTube Music will soon replace Google Play Music on TVs. For devices running Android TV OS, YouTube Music will be automatically available on your device. Users with music uploaded on Google Play Music now only have a small window to download their music before this service closes at the end of the year. Users are reporting that some Google Play Music features are already being turned off in some countries.
