Hidden away in one of their support pages, YouTube Music have highlighted a number of upcoming YouTube Music features which are in development following user feedback.
According to the ‘YTM Team’, ‘feedback is hugely important in prioritizing what we work on next, so please keep your ideas and feature requests coming! Here are some of the requests we expect to land in the next few months, in no particular order:’
- Better audio quality, and ability to select quality for downloading and streaming
YouTube currently streams in 128 kbps HE-ACC, dropping to 64 kbps if needed to, and a higher quality 256 kbps is being worked on.
- Sonos support
- Android auto support
- SD card support for Android (rolling out now!)
- More obvious shuffle vs. play-in-order options for playlists
How do I shuffle in the YouTube Music app?
Shuffling works differently depending on where you are in the app. As the ‘YTM Team’ comments, ‘We know this isn’t perfect, so please keep sending feedback!’
On playlists
- If you’re in a playlist, you’ll see a big white play button (like in the screenshot below). If you tap on the white play button, this will automatically shuffle the playlist. To listen to the songs in order, just select the first song.
On artist pages and liked songs (library tab)
- If you search for an artist, you’ll see the shuffle option when selecting the artist.
- From your liked songs in the Library tab, you’ll see a ‘shuffle all’ button at the top. You can tap on the first song to play them in order.
On albums
- If you’re in an album, you can also click on the three dots and choose ‘shuffle play’.
On Web
- Shuffle and repeat options are located on the player bar, at the bottom right of the screen.
Your Mixtape
- If you’re listening to ‘Your Mixtape’, you can move songs by long pressing the two lines.
The support team posted, ‘We’ve also heard that some of you are eager to transfer music over from Google Play Music – this is also on our roadmap but may take some time. Rest assured that we’re 100% committed to getting this one right!’
As the post says, ‘The above is not an exhaustive list, there are many many things we’re working on, which you can expect to see soon and throughout the rest of the year – so please keep the feedback coming.’ Give YouTube Music your feedback here.
