UKRD to launch pop-up digital radio stations for Christmas

Ten stations available via app, online and smart speaker

Commercial radio operator, UKRD Group, has announced that it will be launching ten digital pop-up Christmas radio stations this year. The in-App, Online and Smart Speaker enabled digital radio stations will launch in November and broadcast until the 31st December 2018. Playing nothing but Christmas songs, each radio station, though centrally delivered, will be locally branded for each of the ten markets in which the group owns and operates a local radio station.

Peter Gordon, the group’s Senior Deputy Group Content Director for Digital Broadcast Services said, ‘following the success of a similar initiative at Minster FM last Christmas, I’m delighted to be working with the radio stations Content Director, David Green, to launch a digital pop-up Christmas radio station in each of the group’s local markets this year.’

Every year for a few days around Christmas, Minster FM changes its name to Mince Pie FM. Last year rather than extend Mince Pie FM, they launched a separate Mince Pie radio station, with support from a local business development organisation – York BID.

From 1st to 26th December 2017, listeners were able to tune in to Mince Pie Non-Stop on DAB Digital Radio, online via a webplayer or via an Android or iOS app to hear non-stop Christmas hits. For readers who can’t wait – further details are here.
