The Top 50 US podcasts for 2021 chart according to the Podcast Consumer Tracker has been published by Edison Research. The Podcast Consumer Tracker is the only podcast measurement service that measures the relative audience size and demographics of all podcast networks.
The Edison Research Top 50 Most Listened to US Podcasts from 2021 list is derived from data collected continuously throughout 2021 from surveying weekly podcast consumers ages 18 and older.
The top shows on the list are:
- The Joe Rogan Experience
- The Daily
- Crime Junkie
- This American Life
- Stuff You Should Know
- My Favorite Murder
- Office Ladies
- Call Her Daddy
- Serial
- Pod Save America
The top three podcasts, The Joe Rogan Experience, The Daily, and Crime Junkie, also ranked in 1-2-3 order in the Top 50 Podcasts of 2020.
Tom Webster, Edison Research SVP said, “It was an eventful year for podcasting. True Crime, Comedy, and News continue to be the most popular genres, but the entire list is a vibrant and diverse list of shows.”
It remains to be seen whether the controversy surrounding Joe Rogan’s podcasts will have any lasting effect on his popularity. Neil Young experienced a boom in streaming numbers from around 600k per day to just over a million per day after his decision to have his music removed from Spotify and web traffic services have reported that Spotify’s subscription cancellation page has seen visits increase by 200% although whether this will translate into actual cancellations is unknown.
