Spotify users rise to 5.2 million in Netherlands according to a new report from research firm GfK. In October 2018, Spotify had added an extra 1 million users in the last year achieving a monthly reach of 36.2% (5,243,000 people aged 13 and older) – an increase of 22% year on year.

The use of Spotify amongst young people (13-24 years old) was the highest reaching 64% of the population up from 46% a year ago. In the 20 to 49 group 28% use Spotify weekly with almost half of those users paying for the Spotify Premium subscription service.

Most users play their music on or via mobile platforms with more than 85% of the usage via smartphone and 15% via tablets. Spotify usage on the desktop was not measured.

The study doesn’t compare Spotify to other music-streaming services in detail but does include a table of total reach of all video and audio streaming, radio and tv stations. From this it is interesting to note that YouTube is used by 84.5% of Dutch users (with no breakdown of YouTube v YouTube Music) and Apple Music reached 38.1%.
