SoundCloud rolls out mobile uploading of tracks with the iOS app available now and Android ‘coming soon’ according to a recent blog posting. Uploading to SoundCloud from your phone is the latest mobile workflow capability from the streamer that makes it easier to create and share, anytime, anywhere. With track, Spotlight and profile editing also part of their toolkit of mobile tools it is possible to make a track private, feature your best work and update your SoundCloud bio.
How to upload tracks from your iPhone app
- Within the iOS app, tap the upward-pointing arrow on the top right of your home screen.
- Select any audio file from your phone (upload lossless HD files like FLAC, WAV, ALAC or AIFF for best audio quality)
- Ensure your metadata is correct or add artwork, a new title, genre(s) and description on the spot, and select whether you want your track public or private.
- Tap save (top right).
- Head to your profile to see your newly uploaded track.
And then send to Instagram Stories, text your friends your private link, pitch to press – all from the palm of your hand.
SoundCloud recently introduced lossless HD storage and downloads for all its creators. The ability to download original files was previously a Pro feature but the premium storage solution is available on all subscription plans. You can upload, store and download a wide variety of file types including lossless HD formats up to 4Gb per upload. SoundCloud recommend uploading lossless HD files (WAV, FLAC, AIFF, or ALAC), but a full list of codecs and containers can be accessed on here.
Apart from the obvious advantages of secure cloud storage, SoundCloud has added the following teaser which holds out the prospect of higher audio quality streaming: “Uploading in lossless HD today ensures that your content is ready for the HD streaming improvements we make going forward.”
SoundCloud Go+ and SoundCloud’s free, ad-supported experience are now available in 15 countries including the US, UK, Ireland, France, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Austria. SoundCloud now has over 200 million tracks from 25 million creators heard in 190 countries.
