From the 7th December radio and Amazon Prime Music plays have been added to the official German singles charts according to BVMI, the German recorded music industry association. These have been added to the weekly charts compiled with GfK Entertainment which already record physical sales, downloads and premium music streams. The airplay charts are recorded for the top 300 titles with a week as determined by MusicTrace.
According to the BVMI, “The aim of the Official German Charts is to reflect the diversity of music usage as comprehensively as possible. The hit lists are based on the sales and usage data of over 2,800 retailers in the sales channels of stationary retail, e-commerce, download and music streaming. The radio segment is now another central way of using music. Between 1989 and 2001, radio plays were already included in the official German charts – at that time, however, only within the range of positions 51 to 100.”
As well as adding the top 300 airplay chart points, the charts now contain streaming plays from Amazon Prime Music. Amazon’s premium service Amazon Music Unlimited has already been part of the Top 100 since the end of 2016.
