Qobuz updates its Android app to version 5.1.0 and will be offered to Qobuz’s new and existing Android users.
The main changes to the application are:
- Bug fixes
- Changes to the Users Experience when music streaming
- Re-engineering the music player
- Changing the way local management storage is handled (cache, download, imports)
- Users can now view the app in landscape mode
- More choice of storage locations for offline and downloads i.e. local, SD etc and the cache size.
One drawback to the upgrade is that locally stored music will be deleted from the existing Android application (music you find in the « Offline Library » tab which allows you to listen to music offline). These tracks can still be listened to on the application, but you will have to import/download them again if you wish to have them restored to the « Offline Library » tab.
Qobuz have provided a workaround which is ‘if you want to be able to easily find the tracks which you had saved to your Offline Library, we advise you to save them to a playlist or to your favourites. This way it will be easier to re-import/download them once the update has taken place.’
In the blog announcing the update, Qobuz apologised for the inconvenience of having to redownload previously stored music but said, ‘We are aware of the inconvenience of this update for our users. The decision of whether to go ahead or not with this development was not easy, but it is our responsibility to give you the best service and musical experience, this includes regularly updated, effective applications.’
Qobuz are interested in receiving feedback on the new app, so suggestions for improvement and bug reports can be sent to – android@qobuz.com. The app can be downloaded from here.
