Primephonic launches digital CD booklets providing online musical information for its extensive catalogue of classical music. Liner notes and CD booklets were destined to become a thing of the past with the transition from physical media to the new world of streaming. The specialist classical music streamer has partnered with major labels such as Sony, Universal and Harmonia Mundi, as well as hundreds of other smaller labels to create readable digital CD booklets.

Primephonic’s app will initially stock tens of thousands of digital booklets for its catalogue of classical works. Primephonic intends to bolster as much of its existing catalogue (currently standing at 230,000 albums) with digital booklets for as many as possible over the course of the year.

The new update has required many man months of effort to produce by Primephonic’s technical team in Amsterdam. Primephonic CEO Thomas Steffens said, “CD booklets are very important to classical music enthusiasts. Our subscribers are passionate about the genre and want to absorb as much information detailing composers, instrumentalists, and conductors, as possible. Here at Primephonic, we are proud to be the first music streaming service in the world to offer readable digital CD booklets. This is also an important service update to ensure all artists are accurately credit for their work, something that is particularly relevant for the classical music genre due to its collaborative nature”.

One of Primephonic’s unique selling points is its smart search which is built from the ground up, using eight parameters to organise its music. Each piece of metadata is entered manually by their team of classical music experts instead of relying on AI.
