Local music continues to dominate Italian charts in first half of 2024 according to FIMI, the Italian recorded music industry association. The Top Ten Albums and Singles are all Italian and are on track to make this the fifth year in a row that this has happened.

After 5 consecutive weeks at the top of the weekly chart, Icon by Tony Effe leads the Album chart (physical + download + free & premium streaming) with I nomi del diavolo by Kid Yugi in second place and La Divina Commedia by Tedua in third. 95% of the Top 20 is by Italian artists: only the international phenomenon Taylor Swift manages to place a title (the most recent The tortured poets department) in thirteenth position.

Among the Singles (download + free & premium streaming + video streaming) in first place is Tuta gold by Mahmood, followed by Geolier with I p’ me, tu p’ te and in third place Annalisa with Sinceramente. With the exception of two titles, the top ten is occupied by singles from the Sanremo Festival – a phenomenon that has now consolidated in recent years, which marks a growth curve compared to 2023 (where the songs from the festival in the top ten stopped at 5).

The growth of female artists continues and sees sees the number of female artists present in the Top 100 Albums go from 12 (1st half of 2023) to 15. Two of the top ten positions are represented by female artists compared to none the previous year. Female artists have also increased their share of the Singles chart with 32 entries in the Top 100, up from 25 in the previous year.

In the new CD, Vinyl and Cassette chart – inaugurated at the beginning of 2024 together with a renewed methodology – Club Dogo placed first with their eponymous comeback project, followed by Kid Yugi (I nomi del diavolo) and Ultimo (Altrove), in a Top 20 dotted with both iconic titles and more recent musical projects.

According to GfK data, in the first half of 2024 the streaming market saw its volumes grow by 31.7% with over 46 Bn total streams. And although the physical segment recorded a slight decline of 3.7%, vinyl continues to strengthen its presence on the market with a growth of 15.3%.
