Google have announced that Google Play Music will close during 2020 and users will be able to move their music library and playlists to YouTube Music and continue listening at no additional cost. The process has been made pretty straightforward but unless you, the user, move your content it will get lost when Google Play Music shuts down. The migration process is available now and how much notice Google will give on the shutdown in unknown.
How to move your music library from Google Play Music to YouTube Music
- Download the YouTube Music app (iOS/Android).
- Click on the transfer button in YouTube Music, and your uploads, purchases, added songs and albums, personal and subscribed playlists, likes and dislikes, curated stations and personal taste preferences will move right over.
- Your updated recommendations will appear immediately on the YouTube Music home screen, and we’ll notify you via email and notifications when your music library transfer is complete and your music is in the ‘Library’ tab.

After you’ve completed this transfer, you will still have access to your Google Play Music account – it’s included at no extra cost with a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription. If you currently have a free Google Play Music account, you’ll also continue to have the same access after your transfer.
