German music sales continued to grow in 2024 with revenue reaching €2.38 Bn – up 7.8% on 2023 according to the BVMI in recently released figures. The majority of sales, 84.1%, were generated from the digital business, which grew by 11.2%, driven by audio streaming (+12.6%), which now has a market share of 78.1%. The physical market (18.5%) declined by 7.4% despite vinyl growth of 9.4% generating €379 million in sales during the year. CD sales fell by 17.1% but still remains the second strongest market segment (8.7%).
Music genre shares in 2024
Pop music tops the list at 24.6% followed by Hip-Hop at 19%, Rock at 17% and Dance music at 11.8%. Classical and Jazz remain fairly niche with 1.6% and 1.6% shares respectively.
