Genius lyrics database is now available on Apple Music as the company makes Apple Music its official music player and will share its lyrics on the service. Genius is the world’s biggest encyclopaedia of music, built by artists, scholars, and super-fans working together to go deep inside their favourite songs. Now the encyclopaedia has a soundtrack with Apple Music subscribers who visit Genius able to play any song in full right from the song page, simply by signing into their Apple Music account.
Genius will also provide lyrics to thousands of hit songs on Apple Music bringing world-class accuracy and timeliness powered by Genius’s global community of artists and fans.
“Being able to read lyrics and annotations on Genius while you listen along on Apple Music is a dream Genius experience,” said Ben Gross, Genius’s Chief Strategy Officer. “We’re proud to make Apple Music our official music player, and we’re doubly excited to bring Genius lyrics to their amazing platform.”
The Apple Music player is currently available on Genius.com (desktop and iOS mobile web) and in our iOS app and these can be accessed here.
In a blog posting, Genius noted that ‘lyrics on Apple Music won’t look exactly like they do on Genius since we have some different formatting (for example, section headers), but the lyrical content will be consistent across both platforms. For now, that means we won’t be able to tell whether the lyrics for a given song on Apple Music come from Genius or not, but there may be updates on this in the future’.
