Dutch music industry grew 9% in 2023 with streaming being the main source of income according to NVPI Audio, the Dutch music industry association. In 2023, the total turnover of the Dutch music industry amounted to 299 million euros, an increase of 9% compared to 2022.
Turnover from streaming music increased by 11% to almost 240 million euros. Sales of CDs and vinyl also grew, respectively 16.1 (+5%) and 38.2 (+3%) million euros. The growth is partly due to higher Spotify subscription rates in the last months of 2023 which was the first price increase since its introduction into the Netherlands.
Homegrown music was also very popular with the Dutch public in 2023, according to figures from market research agency GfK. Just like last year, half of the top 10 best-selling singles consist of Dutch productions. In the top 10 best-selling albums, the highest-ranking Dutch album was by FLEMMING with an album of the same name. NVPI estimate that around 30% of all revenue is reinvested in new music.
