Dutch music industry grew 12% in 2024 with streaming being the main source of income according to NVPI Audio, the Dutch music industry association. In 2024, the total turnover of the Dutch music industry amounted to €334 million, an increase of 12% compared to 2023.
Streaming music remains the most important source of income for the Dutch industry with turnover increasing by 16% to €278 million. Sales of CDs and vinyl fell by 6% with vinyl sales declining by 3% (€37.2 million) and CDs continuing their rapid decline (-14%, €13.8 million).
Downloads were up at €3.5 million and increase of 9% over 2023 but at slightly over 1% represents a tiny portion of music sales.
Part of the revenue growth can be explained by the increase in subscription prices of streaming services. Anne de Jong, director of NVPI commented, “As far as we are concerned, this means that music is valued a step better and therefore more can be invested in new music. That is good for both industry and consumers.”
Dutch music continues to do well
Dutch artists were very popular in 2024. In the top 10 best-selling singles are six Dutch songs, compared to previous years when there were five. The highest four listings are all from The Netherlands, with Joost with ‘Europapa’ at number 1 and Roxy Dekker with ‘Sugardaddy’ at number 2.
