Discover Indian classical music with Ragya, a specialist streamer which is a first-of-its-kind music streaming service dedicated to Indian classical music. Ragya’s default mode makes enjoying and discovering Indian classical music simple for listeners as it curates and plays tracks based on the time of the day. This is based on the raga system in Indian classical music which is structured around the 8 time sections in the day. In addition there are curated sections where listeners can dive deeper and learn about the artiste, raga and the composition.
There are two services a Free service which offers a 15 hour compilation interspersed by Ragya promos and streamed at 64 kbps MP3 and a Premium service which has 1000+ hours of tracks which the streamer says is ‘growing everyday’. The Premium service is streamed at 320 kbps MP3. Premium subscriptions are £7.45/month or £74.45 for an annual subscription.
Aditya Dipankar, the founder of Ragya, told Indian newspaper The Hindu, “We launched the current version of this app last year, and the idea of providing music according to the time of the day proved really popular. It gives listeners a curated experience. We couldn’t find an app, so we thought we might as well make one for ourselves.”
“In its current format, the app is more like a radio, with limited browsing options. However, Aditya adds that they are currently working on the next version which will make the listening experience more customised. With feedback from listeners, we will next include options to browse by selecting not just time of the day, but the artist, instrument, gharana, raaga, and also moods such as to help you calm down, or concentrate, or put you to sleep and so on. This should be done in the next three months,” he says.
Mobile, desktop and web players are available. The iOS app can be downloaded here, the Android app here and an Apple Mac app here.
