Apple Music launches beta web player which works in any browser on PCs, Macs and Linux. Subscribers can access the Apple Music web version at beta.music.apple.com and sign in with their Apple ID. The beta has been a long time in the making as we saw a preview in June 2018 which used Apple’s MusicKit developer software.
At launch, the service includes core features, like searching and playing songs from the Apple Music catalogue, searching and playing songs from your library (if Sync Library is enabled) and accessing your playlists. The web player looks very similar to the Apple Music app and has Library, Search, For You, Browse and Radio sections. More features are likely to be added over time.
Currently the web player is not able to sign up new users and you will need to be an existing subscriber who has signed up elsewhere. Earlier this year Apple announced that it was retiring iTunes and making Music a standalone app with access to both downloads, library content and Apple Music’s streaming service. The web player joins already launched apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch and Macs. Apple Music is also available for non-Apple devices such as Android, Windows, Sonos and Amazon Echo.
