Deezer trials a karaoke app in France using its AI based Spleeter technology according to a recent blog posting by the streamer (in French). Spleeter uses AI techniques to separate vocal tracks from instrumental tracks and this has been incorporated into a dedicated karaoke app called Karaoke by Deezer.
The recording process usually mixes a selection of separate tracks – vocals, drums, bass etc – to produce the final recorded song. Given the final mix, Spleeter attempts to recover these separate tracks which are also referred to as stems. STEMS defines a Stem file as ‘an audio file that contains a track split into four musical elements: A drums stem, a bassline stem, a harmony stem, and a lead stem for example. The Stem file also includes the original stereo master of the track for standard playback.’ Further information on stems can be found at https://www.stems-music.com/. The Karaoke by Deezer app trial is initially only available on iOS and with an interface in French to Deezer’s Premium, Family, Student and HiFi subscription tiers.
For the trial Deezer has selected essential karaoke songs like those of Céline Dion, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Julien Doré, Kyo and similar and they have produced a short explanatory video here (in French).
