Spotify tests sponsored album recommendations on its Spotify mobile app with Spotify Premium subscribers able to turn these off. Spotify occasionally delivers full-screen recommendations in its Spotify mobile app, letting you know that one a favourite artist has a new album out. Based on interviews Spotify have conducted with Premium users, as well as Twitter feedback, listeners seem to like this feature.
Spotify will personalize these new album recommendations based on listening taste, combined with human curation. With an upcoming test Spotify is running in the US, the streamer is giving artists and their teams the ability to directly tap into this process and connect with their fanbase.
In this test, Spotify will let artist teams pay to sponsor these recommendations, giving them the power to tell their listeners on Spotify, across both Free and Premium tiers, about their latest release. Listeners will now hear from a wider range of artists, which means they are less likely to miss out on new releases from favourite artists.
The recommendations will continue to be powered by user’s music taste, so they will only hear from artists that they frequently listen to or follow. If you are not happy with these paid for recommendations Premium subscribers can turn them off.
