Japanese charts to include streams and downloads from 19th December 2018. Chart rankings from Oricon, Japan’s official chart organisation, will add the number of CD sales, digital downloads and streams to produce three new weekly charts:
- a combined single chart
- a combined album chart
- a streaming chart
The combined singles chart will be calculated using a points system where a CD single will count for 1 point, 2.5 song downloads will equal 1 point and 300 streams will be needed to gain a point. The combined album chart will use a similar points system with both a physical and digital CD album counting for 1 point and 1440 streams needed to equal 1 point.
Downloads will be measured from:
- iTunes Store
- Oricon Music Store
- mu-mo
- music.jp
- mora
- LINE MUSI
- Recochoku
Streaming services being measured will be:
- Apple Music
- AWA
- KKBOX
- D’Music
- LINE MUSIC
- Recochoku Best
The combined weekly chart can be found here (in Japanese)
Japan is the latest country to add streaming data to its charts, a trend started by Billboard in 2014 when it added streaming services to its Billboard 200 Album charts.
