France continues to buy mainly French music in 2024 with 18 out of the Top 20 best-selling albums being made by local artists and in French according to SNEP the French recorded music industry association. The top 3 best-selling albums of the year were by French artists – Werenoi, who climbs to the top step for the 2nd consecutive year, PLK and Indochine
2024 French Recorded Music Highlights
- 145 French productions are present in the 200 best-sellers of 2024.
- 138 Bn streams in 2024, an increase of 17 Bn (+14%) compared to 2023.
- 14 million physical albums sold.
- 18 first albums produced in France are appeared in the annual Top 200 albums list, including “Chaque seconde” by Pierre Garnier in 5th place and “la Symphonie des éclairs” by Zaho de Sagazan, in 6th.
- 32 artists had 2 or more albums in the Top 200.
- The performance of female artists improved with four French artists now appearing among the top 20 places, compared to only one the previous year. Across the entire Top 200, 41 albums were by female artists, or just over one album in five. Billie Eilish was in 4th place ahead of Zaho de Sagazan and Taylor Swift in 6th and 9th places respectively.
- Rap, Hip Hop and RB artists featured prominently in the Top 200 with 12 albums making it into the Top 20. Werenoi (with 2 albums), PLK in 2nd place in the Top followed by SDM, JUL (with 3 albums), Gazo x Tiakola, Dadju & Tayc, SCH, Tiakola and Bouss.
- Rock & Metal albums had 5 French albums in the Top 10 with Indochine occupying 1st place as well as 6th place with its live album.
- French productions also stand out in classical and jazz charts with Sofiane Pamart, at the top of the classical chart with 3 albums and Ibrahim Maalouf with 3 albums in the jazz charts including his new album in the Top 10.
- In the radio charts, female artists occupy half of the Top 10 with Sabrina Carpenter and Dua Lipa competing for first place.
